Tips to Choosing a Safe Neighborhood

At Linda Craft & Team we understand the importance of not only choosing the right home for your family but also the right neighborhood. We have some tips and information to look into before you make such an important decision. We know safety is your number one concern and it is ours as well.

Crime Rate

The CIUS (Crime in the United States) annually is released in which the FBI compiles volume and rate of crime offenses for the nation, states, and individual agencies. You can find this report as well as arrest, clearance, and law enforcement employee date on the FBI website. The City of Raleigh can also provide some information on neighborhoods and crime rates you may find very helpful when choosing a home.

Sex Offenders

In North Carolina, the law requires a person who is a resident of NC and who has a reportable conviction to maintain registration with the sheriff of the county in which they reside. If a person moves to NC from another state they have 10 days to establish residence or whenever the person has been present in the state for 15 days, whichever comes first. Anybody can check the North Carolina Sex Offender & Public Protection Registry. By typing in an address you can see names, pictures, and addresses for all the sex offenders in your area.

Schools

Though there is no guarantee that the home you purchase will remain in the same school district for the future there are a couple of tools to check schools in your area. The Wake County School website provides a ton of information for families. On the Wake County School website you can actually time in your address and see the options your family has for school choices. It is a great tool to see what schools your new home has available. NC Schools Report Cards also provides some information such as a school profile, high student performance, quality teachers, and safe, orderly, & caring schools showing stats on the school, district, and state.
