RTP Plans Expansion

Since its start in 1959, Research Triangle Park has been on of the most prominent research and development centers not only in the United States but the world. Created by local and state governments, local businesses, and universites, Research Triangle Park is one of the Triangle’s best resoursces. A private non-profit organization called Research Triangle Foundation manages the park. Friday November 9th, the RTP Foundation of NC announced they will be partnering with Hines (Houston TX based developer) to expand RTP. Chairman of HR&H, John Alschuler, projects that the expansion will create 84 million square feet of office space and over 150,000 new jobs to the Triangle Area!

The plan focuses on three major areas. One, a Triangle Commons, with a great range of amentities and uses to help support the foundation of the park and creating a center for the park. Second, they will be creating a business support center that will be the prime site to create office space and commercial support to companies in the RTP. Third, they will be creating the Kit Creek Center which will help create development of business research through development of transit and ammentities. Overall the RTP Foundation of NC is looking to maintain the legacy, keep existing companies, continue to be an ideal location for large companies, and create a more diverse range of occupants. The main goal is to stay a leader in research development for the next 50 years plus.
