There are so many ways that Raleigh is a great city.  We have  good roads and major interstates that make traveling easy to any part of the state and we are only a few hours from the beach and the mountains.   Major universities like Duke, UNC and NC State are nearby not to mention all of the technological jobs at Research  Triangle Park.   Sports, Music, Cultural Events, growing neighborhoods and much more await you.

Where are the Best Places in Raleigh?

Is This Typical Greater Raleigh Area Weather?

No, not quite.  We do get hurricane aftermath every few years or so.  The last big ones that came through were Hurricanes Fran (1996) and Floyd (1999).

Every once in a while we might have snow and ice too.  Yes, we all act terrified and freak out due to any snow or mention of ice.    We are in the south afterall, and these types of things do not happen to us very often.

How Do You Prepare For a Weather Emergency?

Good question and one that everyone should think about.   Do you have a plan emergencies?   If so, who knows it?  You should always let your family members or close friends know what you plan to do in case the phone lines are down.

• Stock a few non-perishable items in your pantry
• Check your flashlights at least twice a year.  Always have a designated spot where you keep them.   
• Do you have candles?  What about a lighter?  Does the lighter have fluid?
• Do you have propane in your grill gas tank?
• Do you have batteries?  More than one type?
• What about a weather radio?
• Do you have all of your computers and phones charged?
• Is there gas in your car?
• Do you have a weather basket with blankets, flashlights, drinks and snacks in your car trunk?
• Do your kids know where to go in case the cell towers go down?
• Do you have important numbers written down in case your cell phone loses power?
• Do you have a picture inventory of your house?

Three hundred tickets are still left for  Saturday’s free dental clinic at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

The North Carolina Dental Society is holding the event, which offers examinations, x-rays, cleanings, restorations and extractions for anyone over the age of 18 with an income of less than $27,225 per year. 

Up to 120 volunteer dentists and dental hygienists are staffing 80 dental chairs until 5 p.m. Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Patients are being treated on a first-come, first-served basis, with patient registration starting at 6 a.m.

Even people who have tickets for Saturday need to be lined up by 4:30 a.m.

All of Friday’s tickets had been distributed by 11 a.m., and organizers said they expect to treat 400 people by the end of the day.

This week we have been hosting a tornado relief donations drive at our office on Six Forks for the Salvation Army.   A spokesperson has said that they need as much help as they can and people are in need of EVERYTHING.   Would you help us help those in need?

The video contest starts December 1 and runs through 12 noon on Friday, January 7, 2011.  Remember, whoever has the most “likes” for their video on facebook wins the tickets.  It would probably be better if you get your video up early so that you can get more “likes”.
