Imagine what life was like 100Ā years ago. We were a nation in the throes of the Great War. Women didnāt have the right to vote, and it was certainly unheard of for women to run their own companies as we do today.
Yet 100 yearsĀ ago, 28 influential women in Raleigh broke the societal mold and had the foresight to found an organization that would serve their community during hardships and war. On March 12, 1917, these women founded the Raleigh Red Cross to support military members and their families serving in World War I, no matter their nationality.
Honoring 100 Years of Service by the Raleigh Red Cross
A centuryĀ later, the Raleigh Red Cross chapter stands strong, serving the needs of our local community. In the past year across North Carolina, the Red Cross has responded to more than 2,500 disasters ā mostly home fires; collected over 300,000 pints of lifesaving blood; provided about 24,000 emergency services to military members and veterans; and trained more than 125,000 people in CPR/First Aid/AED swimming and preparedness courses.
