They don’t call it spring cleaning for nothing! This is a great time of year to go through your house, discard what you no longer need and clean your home’s various rooms.
For many people, this is also a time to start fresh – by moving in to their new home in the Triangle.
If you are about to move into a new home soon, you’re sure to find today’s blog helpful. I’m going to tell you about some steps you may want to take about three to four weeks before move day that will help make the process easier for you.
Spring Cleaning Tips You Can Use on the Triangle Real Estate Market
The first thing you want to do is decide what you want to move into your new home and what you no longer need. After all, it makes no sense to go through the effort of transporting something if it’s just going to gather dust in the closet for the next year. Here are some items to consider:
- Books you’ve already read
- Appliances that people gave you that you never used
- Toys with missing pieces
Next, plan to make a list of what you want to sell, what you want to donate and what you want to just trash.
We recommend using Craigslist to sell or give away items for free. This is a quick way to reach a large audience and find a new home for these items quickly.
If you have a ton of items, however, you may consider a garage sale. You can even make a day of it by partnering with your neighbors to host a huge block yard sale.
Of course, as we noted earlier, it’s okay to trash items too. Sometimes people just want to donate everything they don’t plan to keep or sell. But really look at the item and ask if it’s suitable for use. Donations are meant to help people and if you’re donating something that’s hardly in working order, it defeats the purpose.
Finally, consider donating your food items. Yes, this will mean you’ll have to go grocery shopping once you’re settled. But the upside is that you’ll avoid the expensive costs associated with transporting some food items. You can donate these items either to neighbors or local food pantries.
